cultivating a deep sense of inner freedom, ease + ALIVENESS through conscious, connected breathing.
How can something so seemingly simple and automatic create such massive positive change?
Well, because nature doesn’t make mistakes - she’s endlessly creative and wise - and she naturally provides tools to not only survive, but to thrive, within each of us.
To use our breath to its fullest potential - as the powerful internal medicine that it’s intended to be - all it takes from us is the desire to transform, and the commitment to show up for ourselves through mindful attention and conscious physical practice.
No fancy bells and whistles here - just the opportunity to become your own healer on a physical, mental, and emotional level through specific patterns of inhales and exhales.
Doesn’t your nervous system take a deep sigh of relief from just reading that? Mine sure does.
If you’re new to breathwork, I’m sure at this point you’re probably wondering things like:
Okay, so what even is breathwork?
And how does it actually work?
Great questions, let’s explore.
Breathwork simply refers to any sort of breathing technique in which you consciously control your breath to create personal transformation.
There are all sorts of different styles that can be leveraged for specific goals, but the primary type of breathwork that I facilitate is called Conscious Connected Breathing (I’m certified via Alchemy of Breath), because it’s an incredibly efficient portal into physically releasing what’s weighing us down, and experiencing more freedom and aliveness.
You know how your mind can get caught in a looping negative story that feels like the never-ending-broken-record-from-hell? So can your body on a deep cellular level - because trauma and repressed emotions are actually physically stored in our tissues, and they remain locked in there until we take steps to release them.
Think about your greatest insecurity. What’s the fear-based story that your mind tells you about that over and over again? Notice how it never changes unless you take on a self-study practice or form of therapy that supports you in transforming that old pattern to create fresh, new neural pathways?
The same thing happens in the body, but we tend to discredit that fact because we’re not typically consciously aware of it. On top of that, most of us don’t understand the tools to release and rewire these old physical and emotional patterns to restore ourselves to a state of natural harmony and wholeness.
This is where the breath works its magic.
Conscious Connected Breathing is an active breath pattern that takes us deep within ourselves, unlocking and unwinding stored emotions and trauma, allowing us to feel more empowered around our mood and performance, and restoring our connection to our intuition and life force.
It supports the body in becoming alkaline (by releasing more carbon dioxide, and retaining more oxygen than during passive breathing patterns), which is necessary for the nervous system to adapt to different environmental conditions, making us more resilient, creative, and resourceful.
Also, by increasing our oxygen supply through Conscious Connected Breathing, we activate more brain power, expand our awareness, increase our energy levels, and amp up our metabolism and detoxification process (as 70% of toxins are released through the lungs).
It’s awe-inspiring what the body can do when we use its natural functions to their highest capacity. Breath is a crucial component to being alive for a reason - it’s literally life-giving and life-restoring.
When we leverage the breath in a conscious way - we naturally activate the transformation of things like trauma, stress, anxiousness, depression, disconnection, hopelessness, lethargy, pain, and nervous system disfunction.
The breath is able to reach deep into tightly-wound, stagnant areas - and release the things that are weighing us down and holding us back - sometimes through the expression of emotions, sound, and physical movement - sometimes through instantaneous insights and epiphanies (or a combo of all of the above).
The key lies in not resisting what comes up, but instead allowing whatever wants to release, to simply release naturally - so you can experience more freedom, ease, and aliveness in your daily life.
It’s such a beautiful practice in surrender and trust - and truly the most personally transformative practice I’ve ever experienced.
Anyway, it’s one of those things that really needs to be experienced to be understood, so if reading these words is lighting up something inside you, click the button below to check different opportunities for us to breathe together.
