Meditation Comes in Many Forms

Meditation comes in many forms - and I really respect the hell outta it for that. Especially because I don’t wake up feelin’ the same feels everyday, and I like to get a sense for what I need in the moment before I choose how to be a good friend to my body/mind/heart.

No need to judge different forms of medi’s - they come in all shapes/sizes and none are more worthy than others. They can be passive or active, you can sit, stand, or move, eyes can be open or closed, and the list of variations goes on - but no matter which form you choose - there are common threads of present-moment awareness + aliveness (aka the JUICE).

Today, this crazy-lush mug of Kakao potion served as my medi focal point. I set my intention and then sipped and savored this with all of my senses.

I noticed the temperature - how it felt in my hands and through the rest of its journey to my belly.

I noticed + delighted in the taste - the rich, savory, slightly sweet brew with a hint of heat + salt.

I noticed how the morning ☀️ created a 🌙 shadow in the foam - and so did the lip on the side of the mug I was sipping from.

I noticed froth bubbles bursting one by one - taking their own damn time.

I noticed my breath - the quality, depth + pace.

I noticed my heart, and felt it start to hum + expand.

I looked up and everything around me seemed to have more color, more beauty, more aliveness - and a cascade of gratitude came crashing down.

You don’t need to sit silently in an ashram for years to reap the benefits of meditation (but if that’s your thang, get it, honey) - you’ve just gotta choose to do it, consistently - and then get creative w/ how you personally wanna practice.

I’ve felt benefits from practicing everything from mindfully eating a single raisin for 10 mins, to immersing in guided 90-min visualizations, to simply sitting and noticing the sensation of my breath - and I really think there’s something to be said for allowing your intuition to guide you in the direction that you most need at any moment.

Basically - follow you, forget the gurus.
