Essential Oil Infused Sea Salt Spray

There's nothin' like that tousled, wavy texture your hair gets after a day beaching or boating, amiright?!  Mama nature's got mad hair styling skillz.

Beauty companies have cashed in on our love of that fresh-from-the-ocean vibe, selling teeny bottles of sea salt texturizing spray for up to $30 a pop, which are typically filled with a giant list of unrecognizable (read: toxic) ingredients. Insanity!

Since we obviously don't want to be forking over that much cash to mist ourselves in toxins, I've got a super inexpensive, completely non-toxic alternative.  Plus, each time you use it you'll actually be boosting your physical and emotional health. Bonus!

All you'll need is a handful of simple ingredients and you'll be able to make an absolute truckload of sea salt spray:  filtered water, Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, fractionated coconut oil, lavender essential oil, rosemary essential oil, and lemongrass essential oil. Now, let's take a peek at why I chose these ingredients:

Epsom salt helps soak up excess oil in hair and add lots of volume.

Himalayan salt gives you that texturized, beachy look (also soaks up excess oil and helps eliminate dandruff).

Fractionated coconut oil tames frizz, detangles, and conditions.

Lavender essential oil soothes the scalp, balances sebum production, deepens and increases amount of hair follicles.

Rosemary essential oil stimulates hair growth, promotes thickness, soothes dry skin/scalp, and reduces dandruff.

Lemongrass essential oil soothes the scalp/reduces dandruff, strengthens follicles, cleanses, and detoxifies. One last note - these essential oils are also the bomb for keeping bugs away!  Lush locks + ridiculously-good-smelling insect repellant all in one, baby. And remember that it's important to condition your hair really well after using any sort of salt spray, as it can be a bit drying.Okay, now onto zee recipe!  It will take you less than 2 minutes. SO LEGIT.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. glass spray bottle (I love these)

  • 1/4 cup warm filtered water

  • 1/2 tablespoon Epsom salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon Himalayan salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil

  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil (pure, therapeutic grade)

  • 5 drops of rosemary essential oil (pure, therapeutic grade)

  • 5 drops of lemongrass essential oil (pure, therapeutic grade)

Directions

  • Heat water on stove until warm (not boiling)

  • Add both salts to a bowl or cup with warm water and stir until salts completely dissolve

  • Add salt water mixture to glass spray bottle (I like to use a little funnel to help avoid spillage)

  • If the bottle is filled up all the way, pour a bit off the top (leaving about 1/2" or so of room)

  • Add fractionated coconut oil and essential oils to bottle

  • Screw on spray bottle cap and shake vigorously to combine before each use

  • Shake, spray, scrunch, and look like an absolute mermaid - boom!
