The Top 7 Anti-Aging Essential Oils

IMG_1303.jpg

Aging, man. We’re all doing it, and none of us are psyched about it. It freaks us out so much that there are various multi-billion dollar industries that exist solely because people will do anything to look young for as long as possible.

Anti-aging has become big business – which means that turning huge profits is placed much higher on the priorities list than personal safety and effectiveness (in many cases, the safety piece is 100% disregarded, especially in the US).  Our products are laden with toxins, which contribute to the aging process. And cosmetic procedures, in many cases, are unsafe and/or long-term effects aren’t yet known. It’s a dicey gamble!

Let’s take a quick peek behind the curtain at which factors actually turbo-boost the aging process – there are a handful of biggies: free radicals, inflammation, cellular damage, dehydration, toxins, and stress.

And where do these primarily come from? Sugar, processed foods, alcohol, GMO’s, personal care products, beauty products, cleaning/home products, excessive sun exposure, and imbalanced lifestyles (too much busyness, not enough self-care).

By now, you’re probably thinking, okay, I get what I need to reassess lifestyle-wise, but is there anything I can use on my freakin’ skin that’s not going to speed up the aging process? and the answer is, fo’ sho, babe – that’s what this post is all about – you can use pure, therapeutic grade essential oils.

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their anti-aging and skin beautifying benefits – not to mention the laundry list of therapeutic benefits (emotionally + physically) that you'll reap as a side effect of applying them to your skin with a carrier oil (think: fractionated coconut, jojoba, hemp seed, rose hip, sea buckthorn, or pomegranate seed).  These babies allow you to age gracefully in and out.

Side note before we get oily:  You always want to ensure that you’re using absolutely pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. Which means oils that are grown sustainably in their indigenous habitat (this produces the most potent chemistry), and each batch is rigorously tested by multiple 3rd party labs for absolute purity (the last thing you want to do is add toxins to your body when you think you’re detoxing).  If you need any guidance in this area, just reply to this email and I’d be happy to help.

Okay, now onto the top 7 anti-aging oils!  These guys will squash inflammation, gobble up free radicals (antioxidants, for the win!), promote cellular regeneration (bye, fine lines, wrinkles, and spots!), banish microbes like bacteria and fungus, soothe sensitivity, hydrate, tighten, tone, and so much more. Plus, they’ll add zero toxins to your life – they’ll actually help you get rid of any existing toxins in/on your bod. Prepare to be radiant. ✨

Frankincense

The King of Oils, Frank is the skin’s bff. It’s regenerative, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hydrating, tightens + firms, balances pH, fades fine lines, wrinkles, scars, spots + stretch marks, and soothes irritations.

Helichrysum

This baby is known as the Everlasting Flower (aka Immortal) for a reason. It’s regenerative (reduces fine lines, wrinkles, spots + discoloration), hydrating, high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, soothes irritations, and protects against sun damage.

Geranium

Used for its skin beautifying properties since back in the day (those Ancient Egyptians knew what’s up), Geranium is a gorgeous-smelling way to get your glow on. It’s high in antioxidants, astringent (firms + tones), shrinks pores, balances sebum production, fades spots + stretch marks.

Sandalwood

This grounding, lush oil is the bomb.com for boosting radiance. It’s regenerative, astringent (tightens + firms), hydrating, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, protects from sun damage, reduces hyperpigmentation, boosts circulation, and soothes irritations.

Myrrh

One of the gifts for little baby Jesus (in the golden fleece), this gem has been used since forever as well. It’s regenerative, high in antioxidants, antimicrobial, hydrating, soothes irritations, firming, and reduces fine lines + wrinkles.

Lavender

Even though it’s one of the most widely-known and used essential oils, many people don’t realize that it’s incredible for skin health. It’s anti-inflammatory, hydrating, regenerative, antimicrobial, soothes irritations, and is super high in antioxidants.

Rose

One of the rarest and most prized essential oils (did you know it takes approx. 60,000 roses to produce just 1 oz of essential oil?) Rose is jam-packed with skin-loving goodness. It slows the breakdown of collagen, promotes elasticity, boosts circulation, promotes + retains moisture, reduces irritations, soothes broken capillaries + scars, and has astringent properties (tightens + firms).
