Seasonal Allergy Soothers
If you're reading this there's a good chance you're sitting in front of your computer/phone/tablet with your head pounding, or eyes watering, or nose sniffling, or feeling dizzy, or tired, or some other less-than-fun thing that comes with the change of seasons + the pollen in the air. I'll keep this short + sweet for ya, because I know you're not feeling so hot.
Most people reach straight for the medicine cabinet when they feel seasonal allergies creepin' in. You know my stance on toxins, so you won't be surprised that I have some non-toxic alternatives up my sleeve.
Check out my post from last year on a more long-term solution. But in the short-term, I've got some super-powerful things for you to try as well: a combo of Lemon, Peppermint, and Lavender essential oil - the three musketeers of allergy relief.
Quick info on allergies in general - essentially they happen when the body confuses typically harmless substances (like pollen) for invaders (like viruses + bacteria), and thinks they're attacking our cells.
To prevent the attack, the immune system goes on overdrive producing antibodies and releasing histamines trying to fight the "invaders" which results in allergy symptoms - like trouble breathing, rash/hives, fatigue, runny nose, nausea, etc.Basically it majorly increases inflammation levels in the body and makes the allergy sufferer feel like a big pile of crapola (that's a scientific term).
When you combine the three oils I mentioned above, they form an extremely effective antihistamine and reduce overall inflammation levels. In addition to their antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties, these three bring even more allergy-soothing properties to the table.Lemon is an expectorant (great for clearing phlegm), is cleansing (for the air, surfaces, and the body), and is both calming and uplifting - helping to relieve fatigue.
Lavender has a calming effect on the mind and body, is cleansing, soothes skin irritations (rashes, hives, etc.), and reduces swelling and headaches.
Peppermint promotes clear breathing, helps with digestive issues, soothes headaches, and cools down the body.
Okay, now let's get on to how to use them - it's always best to choose a method that you could easily integrate into your life. Also, make sure that you're not allergic to any of these plants (like lavender) before using them, because the last thing you need is additional allergic reactions. For the applications/uses below - I can't stress how important it is to only use pure therapeutic grade oils to ensure safety and effectiveness (not the kind you find in your local health food store). Drop me a line here if you have questions.
